After her experience Julia confessed that she had used a lot of recreational drugs in her younger years, but she had never had any experience as profound as this three-dimensional, multisensory event. In fact, Julia reported that it was the best experience of her life.
The ETT® samadhi process often functions as a spiritual gateway experience in which a vast array of other experiences may occur. Much of the rest of this book is devoted to an understanding of these experiences. Among the transpersonal experiences that may occur subsequent to a samadhi experience is a profound type of awakening that is known by different names in different cultures and different religious orientations. Among its characteristics in common is a profound physiological experience of the divine that is often mistaken for a medical malady or a psychological disorder. In Christian circles it might be described as rapture by the Holy Spirit, but in Hindu culture a similar experience is known as Kundalini. In my second book I describe the Kundalini experience in great detail (Vazquez, 2013, pp. 207â212). It is important to note this type of awakening so that it will be recognized by facilitators and appropriately guided. Two of the best recent descriptions of the Kundalini type of spiritual awakenings have been written by Bonnie GreenwellâThe Inward Journey and The Awakening Guide in 2014.
The synthesis of ancient wisdom about meditative processes and current-day technology can provide a new means to achieve profound states of inner experiences. Since this new synthesis achieves the same experience, it has become accessible to more people who operate in todayâs lifestyle. While this represents an extraordinary burst into higher states of consciousness, it also requires preparation and follow-up assistance so that disorientation can be minimized and accommodation to this change can be maximized. This potential disruption of oneâs religious philosophy can occur if direct experience or contact with the void or the divine fosters an incongruity between experience and intellectual concepts. However, it is the nature of true spiritual transformation or rebirth that a radical change occurs. On the other hand, this level of change may fulfill oneâs grandest dreams as contact with oneâs deepest authentic self is achieved.
